Allie's Body Found at Tinker Dam

June 22, 2007

PERTH ANDOVER, New Brunswick -- Game Wardens traveled to New Brunswick on June 19 to monitor the recovery of the body of three year-old Alexandria Winship-Wright that was discovered on Tinker Dam on the Aroostook River at approximately 4:30 that afternoon.  Tinker Dam is a mile downriver from the Maine/New Brunswick Border, and is approximately three miles downriver from Fort Fairfield, Maine.

The body was held at a hospital in Perth Andover, which is south of the dam before being taken to St. John, New Brunswick where an autopsy was performed by Dr. Kenneth Obisen and positively identified as Alexandria Winship-Wright.

The body was discovered by dam employees just after 4:30. The employees were notified by the pilot of a small plane that there was a toy along the dam, and after the employees found the small toy boat located by the plane, they discovered the body against the dam.

The Fort Fairfield Police Department along with the Maine State Warden Service accompanied members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to St John, New Brunswick for the autopsy on Wednesday.  The RCMP worked diligently to allow the State of Maine to recover DNA samples for identification purposes.  The DNA was then transported to the Maine State Crime Lab for comparison.

The cooperation between all agencies involved made for the quick, positive identification.
