Bernard von NotHaus, monetary architect for the American Liberty Dollar (ALD) has announced plans to issue a limited edition Maine Liberty Dollar next year. The special one ounce of .999 silver “Liberty” is part of a series to introduce individual states to using gold and silver. To date the organization had privately issued 25 State Liberty Dollars - which builds on the state quarters initiative currently being conducted by the U.S. Mint.

After eight years in operation, minting pure silver Libertys for general circulation alongside the private banking institution’s fraudulent, debt-based fiat Federal Reserve Note, the Liberty Dollar lists Maine as the top state in the country accepting the silver Liberty Dollar. There are nearly five hundred businesses in Maine voluntarily accepting the new private silver currency in trade for their products and services.

Von NotHaus indicates Maine is the last state of the 25 original states and two islands to have a Liberty Dollar issued in its honor. The other states were: New York, Michigan, Washington, Texas, Mississippi, Florida, New Mexico, North Carolina, Indiana, California, Massachusetts, North Dakota, Idaho, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Illinois, Georgia, New Hampshire, Missouri, Alaska, Alabama, Montana, Virginia, Oregon, and the islands of Puerto Rico and Marco Island.

Only 500 of the Maine Liberty Dollars will be minted. 200 will be hallmarked for the First Day of Issue (FDI) and 300 un-hallmarked for general issue. “One hundred will be numbered from 001 to 100.” said von NotHaus. “All numbered Maine Liberty Dollars will also be hallmarked with a special ‘First Day of Issue’ micro hand stamp in the shape of Maine, with ‘ME’ inside the state.” An additional 100 coins will be hallmarked, without the numbering. The general issue Libertys will contain MAINE on the reverse as is on all the Maine Liberty Dollars, but without a number or FDI hallmark.

“The general issue will be $20 for everyone who is not a Liberty Associate. Liberty Associates can get the Maine Liberty Dollar at a discount. Numbered MLD will be $60 each and the Hallmarked is only $40. All are very special and exemplify that Maine individual spirit.”

Von NotHaus uses the silver Liberty Dollar to educated the citizenry about the Constitutional requirement to use only gold or silver coin in their trades. “The concept for the State-labeled Liberty Dollar is part of the State Monetary Initiative to return individual states to using gold and silver as required by the US Constitution, which I announced to commemorate the 7th anniversary of the Liberty Dollar on October 1, 2005. Everybody loves seeing the name of their state on the Silver Liberty and it has helped a lot more people to discover the Liberty Dollar, which of course is good for everybody, Maine, and our great country.”

The Liberty dollar is not available at traditional Federal Reserve branch banks because like the Federal Reserve Note, it is privately minted. But, unlike the Federal Note, it complies with the dictates of the U.S. Constitution where, “no state shall make any thing but gold or silver coin a tender in payment of debts.” (see Article 1, Section 10, Clause 1) Federal Reserve Notes were never authorized by the U.S. Constitution, but rather were declared ‘public policy’ via House Joint Resolution 192 in June, 1933.
