Kilcollins to Build New Motor Sports Facility in Fort Fairfield
By: David Deschesne
Fort Fairfield Journal, July 18, 2007, p. 15
Bob Kilcollins, owner of Bob’s Service and Repair in Fort Fairfield, is acquiring the former Locke’s/ C&W Enterprises lot on the east end of Main Street to construct a new motor sports service center.
Bob’s Motor Sports will specialize in ATVs, motorcycles and snowmobile sales service, and customize engine packages. “I plan to start with a forty foot by sixty foot building,” said Kilcollins, “we say a huge increase in business last year and it’s becoming too much to try to do in one location. I’ve got about 50% of Aroostook County’s motor sports business and feel a little overwhelmed at this location and that’s not fair to my current automotive customers.”
While he plans to have a presence at both locations, the auto service center will stay open and be his primary concern. “I really appreciate my customers and don’t want them to ever think I forgot who put me here. After the new shop is up and running my sons will take care of it and I’ll be able to spend more time in the automotive shop at my present location.”
Kilcollins has already acquired a Dynojet Dyno for measuring the horsepower of engines. “It’s the only one in Maine north of Windham.”
Over the years he has built a relationship with some of the top names in the racing industry and their mechanics which enables him to draw on highly experienced technicians when troubleshooting or designing custom small engine packages.
Many people from out of Fort Fairfield travel to Kilcollins’ shop already, for service on their ATV, snowmobile or motorcyles. The increased traffic to Main Street is seen as a positive step. “Our generation has to make an impact in this town in order for us all to succeed. I believe a specialty business like this will make an impact in town while bringing business to me and other businesses in town, as well.”
Kilcollins plans to sell only used equipment, since there seem to be plenty of franchised dealers already in the area.
