Air Force Lays Off Airmen

Airmen told to be “ready with uniform” in case needed back.

Fort Fairfield Journal, May 9, 2007 edition, page 14

The Fort Fairfield Journal has learned that the lowest 10% seniority of personnel in Air Force Intelligence Operations have been “laid off” and told they may return to work in up to eight years’ time.

The lowest seniority 10 percent were laid off from the Air Force for cost reduction but I am currently in reserves, one Air Force Intelligence Officer told the Fort Fairfield Journal under conditions of anonymity.   If they need us back we have to be ready for the next 8 years with an air force uniform on the ready.

This officer signed up last week for unemployment and free college for 2 years to get his degree for criminal justice.  He will receive his unemployment for those 2 years too. He is not allowed to say anything about his position in the Air Force since he was in Intelligence Operations and he would breach his security clearance.

The U.S. Government currently subcontracts its intelligence services out to private contractors.   CACI and TITAN are two of the largest Intelligence sub-contractors currently used by the U.S. government in Iraq.
